Product Description
NGC MS70 The Angel 2026 1 oz Gold Bullion Coin
The NGC MS70 The Angel 2026 1 oz Gold Bullion Coin presents a modern interpretation of one of the most fascinating coins in British numismatic history. Struck by The Royal Mint in 999.9 fine, 24 carat gold, this exceptional £100 legal-tender coin contains 1 troy ounce of pure gold and has been independently authenticated and awarded the highest possible Mint State grade by Numismatic Guaranty Company.
The original gold Angel was introduced in 1465 during the reign of Edward IV, replacing the noble as one of England’s principal gold denominations. Its celebrated design depicted Archangel Michael slaying a dragon, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. The coin later became associated with the medieval and Tudor “royal touch” ceremony, during which Angel coins touched by the monarch were presented to sufferers of scrofula, historically known as the “king’s evil”. These coins came to be regarded as symbols of protection, healing and good fortune.
For 2026, Royal Mint coin designer Sandra Deiana has created a fresh interpretation of Archangel Michael defeating the dragon. The reverse is enhanced by an intricate security pattern designed to provide additional protection against counterfeiting. Encircling the design is the traditional Latin inscription “PER CRUCEM TUAM + SALVA NOS CHRISTE REDEMPTOR”, meaning “By thy Cross, save us, O Christ, our Redeemer”.
The obverse bears the uncrowned portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by British sculptor Martin Jennings, alongside the coin’s £100 denomination. Certified as NGC MS70 and sealed within an official protective holder, this coin combines one ounce of highly pure gold with perfect graded condition, historic symbolism and more than 1,100 years of Royal Mint craftsmanship.
As qualifying investment gold, the coin is VAT exempt in the United Kingdom. Its status as UK legal-tender currency also means that profits made by UK individuals are exempt from Capital Gains Tax under current legislation, making it an attractive choice for both collectors and physical-gold investors.
